Play Free Online Klondike Solitaire Turn 3
If you have mastered the classic game and are looking for a bigger challenge, Klondike Solitaire Turn 3 (also known as Draw 3) is exactly what you need. While the board and the end goal remain the same, drawing three cards from the stockpile at a time drastically changes the gameplay, requiring much more forward-thinking, patience, and strategy.

The Objective of the Game
Just like traditional Klondike, your ultimate goal is to clear the board by moving all 52 cards into the four empty foundation piles. You must organize these piles by suit (Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades) in ascending order. Every foundation pile must start with an Ace and build all the way up to a King.
Klondike Turn 3 Setup
The layout of Turn 3 is identical to the standard game. The 52-card deck is distributed into four distinct areas:
-
The Tableau: This is your primary workspace, featuring 7 columns made of 28 cards. The first column has one card, the second has two, continuing to the seventh column, which has seven. The top card of every column sits face-up, while the rest are face-down.
-
The Stockpile: The remaining 24 cards are placed face-down in the top corner. This is your reserve pile.
-
The Waste Pile (Talon): When you click the stockpile, cards are flipped face-up into the waste pile. In this version, they are dealt in overlapping sets of three.
-
The Foundation Piles: The four empty slots where you will build your final ascending suits to win the game.
Rules: How to Play the "Draw 3" Variation
The core mechanics of moving cards on the tableau remain the same, but the stockpile introduces a challenging twist. Here are the rules to play:
-
The Draw 3 Rule: When you click the stockpile, three cards are dealt face-up into the waste pile at once. However, you can only play the top (fully exposed) card of that trio.
-
Unlocking Waste Pile Cards: If you successfully play the top card of the three you just drew, the card directly beneath it is "unlocked" and becomes available to play.
-
Stacking Alternating Colors: You can move a face-up card onto a tableau column only if the card you are placing it on is one rank higher and the opposite color (e.g., a Black 8 can be placed on a Red 9).
-
Moving Sequences: You can pick up and move an entire stack of face-up cards, as long as the bottom-most card you are moving follows the alternating color and descending rank rule.
-
Flipping Hidden Cards: Whenever you move a face-up card off a tableau column, the hidden card underneath it is turned face-up and enters the game.
-
Kings Rule Empty Columns: If you completely clear a tableau column, only a King (or a sequence starting with a King) can be placed in that newly emptied space.
-
Redealing the Deck: Once you cycle through the entire stockpile, you can click the empty space to flip the waste pile back over and redeal the deck.
Advanced Strategies to Win Turn 3 Solitaire
Because many cards are trapped beneath others in the waste pile, Turn 3 requires a much more strategic approach. Boost your chances of winning with these tips:
-
Manipulate the Waste Pile: This is the most important Turn 3 strategy. If you play a card from the waste pile, it shifts the order of the remaining cards in the stockpile for your next redeal. Use this mechanic intentionally to change the order of the deck and access cards that were previously hidden!
-
Memorize the Stockpile: Take a mental note of the cards in the stockpile during your first pass-through. Knowing where a crucial King or Ace is buried will help you plan your tableau moves accordingly.
-
Expose Hidden Cards Early: Always prioritize moves that allow you to flip over face-down cards on the tableau. The larger columns on the right side of the board should be your main target.
-
Play Aces and Twos Immediately: Get your foundation piles started the moment you see an Ace or a Two. They offer no strategic value on the tableau.
-
Don't Rush to the Foundations: Unless it's an Ace or a Two, think twice before moving a card to the foundation. You may need that 6 or 7 on the tableau to help catch a card of the alternating color from the waste pile.
How Difficult is Turn 3 Solitaire?
If you are used to standard Klondike (Turn 1), you will find Turn 3 to be a noticeable step up in difficulty.
While Turn 1 is considered "easy" with a win rate of roughly 33%, Turn 3 is widely classified as medium difficulty. Because drawing three cards at a time locks away 2/3 of your reserve deck at any given moment, the average win rate for Turn 3 drops to about 11.1%. Winning requires patience, memory, and a solid understanding of how to shift the deck!
